En una entrevista exclusiva con el Comisionado Juan Francisco Puello Herrera le pedimos respuestas a varios perguntas sobre las condiciones del beisbol Caribeno.

Como van la preparaciones para este evento en Mexicali?
Bueno lo que es la organización ya es algo tradicional.
6 dias doble partido cada dia de Febrero 2-7.
Actividades de confederación del caribe incluye nuevos jugadores que van a ser exaltados al pabellón del salon de la fama de la Serie del Caribe.

Cuales son sus preocupaciones si existen algunas?
Yo creo que ninguna. Me preocupaba un poco lo de los hotels en cuanto la cantidad de hotels pero eso ya fue solucionado. El estadio esta en magnifica condiciones
Habra 2 asambleas el 2 y el 7.
En tema de temperaturas, la ultima vez que hable que tengo un entendido estaban en 20 grados. Si se mantienen en 15 16 18 no creo que va a ver problemas.

Que esta pasando con Colombia y Cuba?
Colombia esta celebrando su 4to torneo y son miembros pasivos de la Confederación.
Cuba es un tema ya recorrente que no creo que valga la pena tratarlo. En este caso la liga cubana nunca ha manifestado deseos de participar en la Serie del Caribe y Colombia pues estamos en espera que ellos realmente den muestra que pueden mantener ese béisbol en el tiempo. Cuando ellos ya den muestra de esto pues podriamos estar hablando de que puedan participar en la Serie del Caribe.

Hay planes para cambiar el formato?
No por el momento no. Si ingresan dos nuevos equipos si entonces analicemos la posibilidad de cambiar el formato.

Como le fue a Puerto Rico este año?
Yo creo que bien yo creo que después del receso. Los recesos no son convenientes en el béisbol. Yo creo que tuvieron una temporada de lo que yo entiendo la liga profesional de Puerto Rico aceptable y sobretodo el final del torneo hubo un gran entusiasmo en los fanaticos y la asistencia fue buena.

Que son los planes para Venezuela en el 2010?
Se va a celebrar en la Isla Margarita. Entiendo yo que es el sitio turistico por excelencia de Venezuela. Yo he estado en la isla y la estructura hotelera es envidiable y hay un gran entusiasmo. Pero sobretodo porque el gobernador con el cual yo hable la ultima vez que yo visite Margarita me aseguro y se comprometio a mejorar el estadio. El estadio es muy bueno y lo van a mejorar aun mas. Yo creo que vamos a tener una muy buena serie del caribe en este lugar.

Preocupaciones sobre el presidente Chavez?
No porque yo creo que independientemente de que no creo que la politica y el béisbol pueden estar unidos. En este caso la isla tiene una ventaja que siendo isla realmente esta mucho mas al margen de cualquier aspecto politico de lo que tenga que ver con el presidente Chavez.

How are preparations going for this year’s event in Mexicali?
In terms of organization, it is now a tradition.
Six days of doubleheaders from February 2-7.
The Confederation has some activities programmed including inducting new players into the Caribbean Series Hall of Fame.

What are his concerns, if any (security, game time temperatures, star players playing)
I don’t think I have any. I was a little worried in regards to the quantity of hotels, but that has been solved. The stadium is in great condition. There will be two meetings on the first day of games and at the conclusion of the event.
In regards to temperature, the last time I called over there I was told that they were hovering around 20 C. If they maintain around 15, 16 or 18, I don’t think there will be a problem.

What’s going on with Colombia and Cuba?
Colombia is celebrating their fourth season and they are passive members of the Confederation.
Cuba is a recurring theme that I don’t think is worth pursuing. In this case, the Cuban league has never approached us in regards to participating in the Caribbean Series and in regards to Colombia we are in a holding pattern waiting for them to prove that they can maintain their league. When they prove that than maybe we can talk about their participation in the Caribbean Series.

Are there plans for changing the Series format?
Not at the moment. If two teams join the Confederation then we will have to analyze the possibility of changing the format.

How did Puerto Rico fair this year?
I think that it went well after the recess. Halts in play aren’t convenient in baseball. I think that they had from what I understand an acceptable season and above all there was great enthusiasm from the fans and there was good attendance in the finals.

What are the plans for 2010 in Venezuela?
The Caribbean Series will take place on Margarita Island. From my understanding it is a great tourist spot in Venezuela. I have been on the island and the hotel structure is something enviable and there exists a great enthusiasm. But above all because with the governor whom I spoke with assured me and committed to improve the stadium. The stadium is very good and it will improve more. I believe we will have a good series in that place.

Any concerns with President Hugo Chavez?
No because I believe that politics and baseball should not be mixed. In this case, a great advantage that exists is that because it is an island it is on the margins in regards to politics and President Chavez.
